#Give2Veterans is Back! Kilimanjaro Edition

By Jake Rath

#Give2Veterans is back and bigger than ever! Later this month I will be venturing into the unknown to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro with my new friend, climbing partner and Marine, Kionte Storey. But, this trip isn’t just about the hike – we’ll be #Climbing4ACause and there’s a way that you can help!

Get Involved!

Each time you do one of the following, we’ll give $1 to the Bob Woodruff Foundation to support veterans…

So, what’s this all about?

We (the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation) have committed to giving up to $500,000 to the Bob Woodruff Foundation, but only if you get involved. We’ll give $1 for each unique post, share, like or retweet on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, using the #Give2Veterans AND either @CohenGive or @Stand4Heroes between August 1 and September 30, 2017.

A big piece of our Foundation’s mission is to raise awareness, and that’s what #Give2Veterans is all about. Just one click is all it takes – it’s that easy! Providing better support services and assistance to veterans in need has long been one of the giving pillars of the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. In addition to giving, this type of conversation, awareness, and communication is one of our goals and we hope to provide the space to facilitate for it. Check out the official press release for more information.

And, you’re climbing Kilimanjaro?

The trek up and down Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania will take a total of 7 days, cover a distance of 50 miles, nearly 14,000 feet of elevation gain, and will reach an altitude of 19,431 feet at the summit. Now, If I could live outdoors I would (and have for a period of time). So, for me, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. Getting to do what I love to do at work has always been the dream, I just never expected it be such a perfect match.

Who are you climbing with?

Joining me on the climb will be Kionte Storey, who lost his lower right limb below the knee from an IED explosion while serving in the Marines in Afghanistan in 2010. Since the injury, Kionte has continually challenged himself, conquering feats such as summiting the Vinson Massif in Antarctica, proving to himself and those watching that “nothing is impossible”. I hope that Kionte’s story (no pun intended) will help others in similar circumstances realize that their injury is not a limitation in life.

How can I get involved?

I’ve told you about the campaign, about the trip and how you can help. Now, I’m going to make it even easier for you! In the “Get Involved” box on this page, there are some quick-and-easy, one-click buttons that allow you to share the campaign and follow/like our pages on your social media. Like I said, one click is all it takes and we’ll give $1 to veterans!

If you’d like to do more than follow or like on social media, you can also make a donation to the campaign at www.bobwoodrufffoundation.org/give2veterans.

Thank you!

As we get closer to the climb we will be providing additional updates. Thank you for reading and for your support! Keep a look out on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for more information and wish us luck!
