The Giving Tour, Reflections: Josh Cohen

By Josh Cohen

While it might be difficult to synthesize a trip like this so quickly, it certainly had an immeasurable impact on all of us and I wanted to share a few quick snapshots from the road.

Tasked with capturing the trip on camera was something I took incredibly serious (probably to the chagrin of my fellow bunkmates) but I wanted to make sure I was able to share people’s stories as accurately and respectfully as I could. What I found was that people across the entire trip were all too generous and eager to join the conversation and couldn’t have invited us in any more than they did. We met incredible people, managing difficult and complicated problems in their communities from food sovereignty issues facing the Lakota people at the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, to the ever present gang and drug violence plaguing Chicago. Every team at the sites we visited consisted of dedicated, brilliant, and compassionate professionals that have already impacted their communities in tremendous ways.

I look forward to continuing to share their stories and I am grateful for the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation for shining a light on so many of these stories all at once. They have a remarkable team of young, empathetic, selfless employees that continue to do great work.

I look forward to the next trip!
