Sustainability
Protecting Our Resources
Changes in our climate and inequity in our food system are daunting issues, but the strength of the Cohens’ sustainability efforts lies in its diversity. Steve and Alex focus their giving in three categories: conservation, urban food systems, and education and employment training. Preserving our land, air, and water, supporting farmers and entrepreneurs in food deserts, and encouraging young people to pursue careers in sustainability are all ways the Foundation maintains stewardship of our planet.
The Cohens have been longtime supporters of the New York Restoration Project, which builds community gardens and parks throughout the five boroughs, and of youth education programs at the Stamford, CT-based Mill River Collaborative. As the Foundation looks to grow its sustainability initiative, we continue to support grantees that have a vision for protecting our environment, reforming the food industry, educating our children—and leaving the world better than how we found it.
