THE BRIDGESPAN GROUP, a Boston-based consultancy for nonprofits and philanthropists, recently released research that found only 20% of philanthropic big bets address social change–stuff like wiping out poverty or eradicating disease–even though ambitious goals dominate major donors’ aspirations.
